Radiological response is a team sport. Many of us practice once a year, with our own team, using our own methods. BEACON is where agencies train together, compare approaches, and run their own systems alongside ours.
BEACON 01 runs a generic radiological dispersal device release. Not one release, though.
We are building multiple releases, so participants can work the same scenario in their own region, on terrain they recognize and roads they would actually be driving. Registrants tell us where they would like their release centered, and we build toward it.
That changes the discussion at the end. Every organization in the room has run the same problem in their own area, which means the comparison is not how someone else would handle a scenario across the country. It is how your approach and theirs differ on the same problem, in the places you each actually respond.
